How to read the Five Elements
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water percentages are a count of symbols in the chart, not scores for different parts of your personality.
Five elements, five images
Wood suggests growth and connection; Fire suggests expression and warmth; Earth suggests support and cultivation; Metal suggests distinction and refinement; Water suggests receptiveness and movement. These are everyday images used to describe a traditional symbolic system.
No element ranks above another. Growth can benefit from direction, expression from listening, and care from boundaries. Each image can suggest both a useful strength and a habit to reconsider when taken too far.
What this site actually counts
With a known birth time, we count one representative element for each of the four stems and four branches. Two Wood, two Fire, two Earth, one Metal and one Water produce 25%, 25%, 25%, 12.5% and 12.5%.
With an unknown time, the hour pillar is omitted and the total is six. Percentages are shown to one decimal place, with rounding adjusted to keep the sum at 100%. Small numerical differences do not imply a precise measurement of character.
What zero and a high percentage mean
Zero means that none of the counted characters is assigned that representative element. This method does not aggregate every hidden stem within the branches or quantify seasonal strength, so zero is not a declaration that an element is entirely absent.
A high percentage is not a positive or negative verdict. More Fire may prompt reflection on expression and vitality, but it cannot establish that someone is outgoing or suited to a particular career.
Balance does not mean five identical bars
Element counts alone do not determine favorable and unfavorable elements in a full traditional analysis. This site does not identify a yongshin or recommend products, colors or numbers to change your fortune.
Treat the graph as a starting point. Ask when a recurring theme has helped you, and whether a less prominent image suggests a practical habit you would like to try.
